Science ~ Mt Ruapehu
We have been having a little bit of fun with the States of Matter this week, looking at changing liquids to gases and solids to liquids.
Today we completed an experiment based on how different liquids interact with each other. There was lots of wonderful vocabulary being used and questioning happening.

Friday fun
While some of the hub were at Ohinemuri swimming today & the juniors on their beach trip, we enjoyed having the school to ourselves by trying to enlarge an original picture. We had to make everything 4 times larger which required a lot of mathematical thinking and problem solving. The end result was very exciting to see come together!
We had a special treat at lunch of smores (biscuits with marshmallow sandwiched between & melted) thanks to Caitlin and Rebecca. The end of the day saw a special scooter display from Ashton to see how many students he could jump!

How do engines work?
Today our literacy group had a trip into town to see Dennis at Paeroa Auto Spares and Andy, Aaron & Darren at Whyteline to help us understand how engines work.
We all learnt the different parts of engines and had some hands on experience with how they work together to make cars, tractors and motorbikes move.
A huge thanks to both business' for taking time out of their day to help us.

Grandparent's Day in 'The Hub'.
Well....what a fantastic day we had by all yesterday at Netherton School. It was grandparent's day and we had around 80 grandparents come and spend the day with us. Children had the opportunity to share some of their learning and the grandparents shared games, books and activities that they used to play when they were at school.
The children and grandparents made some beautiful artwork as a keepsake of the day.
Thank you to all grandparents and friends of the school for coming and sharing the day with us!!
Here are just a few pics!

You Can Learn Anything
I came across this clip by Khan Academy that I thought was interesting and relevant for some of us in the hub.
In the comments, maybe you could share with us a time when you have found something new tricky to learn, but with practice over time, you can now achieve it.

Trailblazer in Space
Here is a different version of the video clip we watched in class yesterday (Year 7's- you were at manual!). This clip gives a bit more of information about Ham and the preparation of going to Space. Watch this and comment below on your thought and ideas. You could even make some comparisons between the 2 videos.
